I will present a partial order on the set of algebras of finite rank that arises from singularity theory. I will show that this order determines a degeneration partial order on the set of algebras of a given rank. As a consequence, I will obtain an algorithmic criterion for determining whether a degeneration exists between two such algebras of rank at most 6.
