The class of compactifications of a given topological space X can be endowed with a natural partial (pre)order. We will discuss the properties of such an order for the simplest non-trivial topological space - omega, the space of the natural numbers with discrete topology. In particular, the topics will include the connection with the partial order given by inclusion on the power set of the continuum, the size of chains and antichains, and analogous results for the subclass of zero-dimensional metrizable compactifications.
