On certain application of the Zariski-van Kampen Theorem

We prove that the fundamental group of the complement of a smooth and connected algebraic curve in C^2 is infinite cyclic. Together with Z. Jelonek (IM PAN) we apply it to the Jacobian problem in C^n.
