Google DeepMind scholarships for female students
Google DeepMind, a global leader in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning research, has for the fifth time funded two scholarships intended for female students who:
-
Are commencing their second-cycle (Master’s) studies this academic year in one of the following fields at the University of Warsaw (UW): Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Data Science and Business Analytics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or Applications of Physics in Biology and Medicine,
-
Intend to prepare their Master’s thesis in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and their applications.
The scholarship recipient will carry out a scientific project that will lead to the preparation of their Master's thesis. The project will be conducted under the supervision of a UW academic teacher—the Project Supervisor—who will also serve as the Master’s Thesis Advisor. The recipient will also receive support from a mentor appointed by Google DeepMind and will be able to participate in scientific conferences in the fields of AI and ML, as well as in events organized by Google DeepMind.
The scholarship is awarded for a period of 24 months and includes support from the Project Supervisor, mentorship provided by Google DeepMind, a fixed monthly allowance (approx. $1100), and additional funds for scientific travel and necessary equipment. The funds are managed and paid not by the University of Warsaw, but by the Institute for International Education (IIE), which manages the global Google DeepMind scholarship program.
The recruitment procedure will be conducted in the second half of October—by this time, candidates should find a potential Project Supervisor and prepare a project, or rather, an idea for a research project within the broad scope of AI, ML, and their applications.
Applications, containing the following documents, should be sent to deepmindfellow@mimuw.edu.pl between October 5th and October 20th:
- Cover Letter,
- Description of the research project,
- Recommendation/opinion from the Bachelor’s thesis supervisor (or another researcher with whom the candidate has collaborated scientifically),
- Description of past scientific achievements (please attach copies of documents certifying these achievements to the application, if possible),
- For students who completed their Bachelor’s studies outside of UW, a copy of the Bachelor’s diploma supplement.
A component of the recruitment process is an interview, during which we will, among other things, expect a short presentation of the research project.
