Topological or supersymmetric (Seiberg-Witten-like) field theories in various dimensions can be engineered by topological string theory on suitable Calabi-Yau manifolds (with a choice of lagrangian submanifolds), so that string amplitudes encode quantities associated to these field theories. Mathematically, these quantities are identified with various invariants, such as knot invariants, Donaldson-Thomas (or BPS) invariants, etc. I will review these relations and their (recently found and currently studied) relations to symmetric quivers.
