Monotonicity formulas have been proven to be an extremely powerful tool in second-order geometric evolution equations such as mean curvature flow, harmonic map heat flow and Yang-Mills heat flow. The monotone object in these flows is a scaling invariant weighted version of the energy whose only critical points are self-shrinker. In this talk I will explain that a localized version of a (pseudo-)monotonicity formula also exists for the extrinsic biharmonic map heat flow which is of fourth-order. I will also point out differences to the second-order case.
