The annual Conference on Applications of Mathematics in Biology and Medicine, co-organized by our Faculty, will take place from September 16-20. This year, we are also planning a panel discussion on career paths in applied mathematics. Our staff and alumni will be among the panelists.

Our Faculty hosts "ML in PL" conference, organized for machine learning professionals, enthusiast and practitioners in both academia and business. If you are keen on ML, register and learn from the best experts in the world, share your knowledge with others and meet with the community!

From September 9th to 13th, our Faculty will host "Diffusion in Warsaw" - a workshop exploring current trends in diffusion modeling from various mathematical perspectives. It will focus not only on partial differential equations but also on probabilistic approaches and numerical methods.

Our students, staff, and alumni performed exceptionally well at the International Championship in Mathematical Games. In the following categories:

- L2 (students): Robert Soboński won 1st place, and Konrad Czarnecki took 2nd place;

- GP (adults not professionally involved in mathematics): Łukasz Kalinowski - 1st place;

- HC (professionals in mathematics): Łukasz Bożyk took first place.

The dean of Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics with the consent of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, announces a competition for the position of assistant profesor in scientific project „Calculus of variation for Machine Learning Problems”, financed by the National Science Centre, Poland (grant agreement UMO-2024/55/E/ST6/01694). Principal investigator: dr hab. Błażej Miasojedow, prof. ucz.

Requirements:

• at the moment of employment, the candidate must hold a PhD degree in mathematics or related fields . The degree must be obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project;
• The applicant must have obtained the PhD at an institution other than the hiring one, or have completed at least a 10-month continuous and documented postdoctoral fellowship in an institution other than the project-hosting institution and in a country different from the one in which the PhD was obtained;
• significant scientific achievements;
• international experience

In addition, we expect that, at the time of employment, the candidate holds a PhD in mathematics (or equivalent) and has suitable expertise to conduct research in mathematics, especially in one or more of the following areas: calculus of variations, optimal transport theory, theoretical aspects of machine learning.
