Dmitry Chistikov (University of Warwick) will give a course titled Presburger arithmetic and its extensions.

As part of the MIMUW colloquium,  Piotr Kucharski will deliver a talk titled “Knot-quiver correspondence”. The talk will take place on May 14, 2026 at 2:30 PM in the Faculty Council Room (2180).

Our students performed exceptionally well at the 33rd Vojtech Jarnik International Mathematical Competition:

• in Category I (1st-2nd year of study), Mikołaj Woźniak took third place, and Krzysztof Karwik placed 6th-10th.

• in Category II (3rd-5th year of study), Adam Naskręcki took second place, and Łukasz Łopacki placed 19th-21st.

Their supervisor was Witold Bednorz. Congratulations!

On this year's SIGMOD Research Highlights (a list of the 10 best database papers, both theory and systems, published in the preceding year) there are two papers we're particularly proud of:
-> Relational Programming in Rel by Filip Murlak
-> AnyBlox: A Framework for Self-Decoding Datasets by our graduate Mateusz Gienieczka (currently a PhD student at TU Munich, previously Filip Murlak's master student)

Damian Niwiński and Paweł Urzyczyn, along with Teodor Knapik (from ISEA, Université de la Nouvelle Calédonie) are this year's winners of the Test of Time award at the ETAPS congress for their paper Higher-Order Pushdown Trees Are Easy published at the 2002 FoSSaCS conference.

Maths Beyond Limits is a mathematical programme for passionate pre-university students (aged 15-19) from all over the world.
MBL Poland 2026 will take place in Rycerka Dolna, Poland, through 6-19 of September.

As part of the MIMUW colloquium, Szymon Nowakowski will deliver a talk titled “Generating hyperrealistic labeled images”. The talk will take place on April 16, 2026 at 2:30 PM in the Faculty Council Room (2180).

This year’s UW Open Day will take place on 18th April, traditionally on The Main Campus.

It will host all faculties, units, as well as sports and cultural organisations operating at our University.

Congratulations to Jan Peszek on winning the Sonata bis grant. This is one of eight grants awarded to the University of Warsaw in this edition.

Dr. Peszek will lead the research project Structural Flows Between Collective Dynamics and AI.

We are pleased to share that Dr. Michał Krych has been honored with the Paul Erdős Award!

For over half a century, Dr. Michał Krych has been tirelessly involved in the Polish Mathematical Olympiad, student competitions, and popularization. He is the only Polish recipient of this award to date, although it is worth noting that after 1996, it was combined with the Hilbert Prize, which was awarded to Marcin Kuczma in 1992. The prize is awarded by the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions.
