MIMUW Colloquium
As part of the MIMUW colloquium, Adam Karczmarz will deliver a talk titled “Shortest paths, edge weights, and models of computation.” The talk will take place on January 22, 2026 at 2:30 PM in the Faculty Council Room (2180).
ALGOMANET 2026
Two courses in the series of ALGOMANET will be held from June 30th to July 3rd at the Leipzig University:
• Matija Bucić (University of Vienna): Sublinear expander graphs
• Jinyoung Park (Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences NYU): Asymptotic enumeration via graph containers and entropy.
PhD students from MIM UW (both maths and CS) are welcome to participate.
The courses can be used as an equivalent of a PhDOpen lecture.
Registration is open until the 20th of April.

Christmas meeting

Workshop on AI and cognitive science
We invite you to the workshop "Compositionality and Reasoning in AI and Cognitive Science," which will take place on January 8th at the Staszic Palace. Speakers include Ian Pratt-Hartmann (U Manchester), Dieuwke Hupkes (Meta AI Research), and Andrea de Varda (MIT).
Two ERC Consolidator grants
It is with great pleasure and joy that we share that two of our colleagues have just received prestigious Consolidator grants from the European Research Council.
Dr. Wojciech Czerwiński will lead the POLARIS project entitled "Reachability in Infinite Systems at High Resolution".
Dr. Michał Pilipczuk will lead the WYDRA project entitled "Towards a unified structure theory for dense graphs".
Our warmest congratulation to them both!
CERC 2025
Congratulations to the UW2 team: Jan Gwiazda, Stanisław Karpiejczyk, and Jerzy Olkowski, who won the gold medal, second place at this year's Central Europe Regional Contest! They thereby advanced to the world finals!
Huge applause to other teams from our Faculty, three of which won medals! Kudos to the supervisors and coaches!
