Requirements:

• PhD in mathematics or an equivalent degree obtained before the start of employment (the PhD may be obtained after the application deadline).
• Good communication skills in English.
• A solid background in algebraic geometry or commutative algebra. Alternatively, a solid background in an area of mathematics related to the project and willingness to gain working knowledge of algebraic geometry.

Research experience in topics related to the project (such as secant varieties, tensor rank, or signatures of paths) will be an advantage. The ability to work on topics outside one's scientific comfort zone is also considered valuable.

The National Science Centre project “Non-reflexive Banach spaces: Fourier approach vs martingale approach” (project no. 2020/02/Y/ST1/00072) is offering a postdoctoral research position at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw.

Requirements:

Candidates should hold a PhD in Mathematics (or a related field) at the time of employment. The degree must have been obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project. Candidates are expected to have an excellent background in the relevant field and a record of scholarly achievements (documented by publications) related to the project.

A strong background in Fourier analysis, functional analysis, and interpolation theory is required.

The National Science Center project „Measure data problems”, led by dr hab. Iwona Chlebicka, is offering a postdoctoral research position in the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.

We expect that candidates at the moment of employment hold a PhD degree in mathematics obtained no earlier that 5 years before the year of employment in project. This time can be extended by a year and a half per each child born or adopted being under personal care of the applicant. We also expect research experience in the field of nonlinear differential equations and fluency in English, both written and spoken.
During the employment period the employee cannot receive salary under an empoyment contract from any other entity.

The ERC project “Smart-Contract Protocols: Theory for Applications” (PROCONTRA), is offering 2 reasearch and technical specialist positions at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.
Project PROCONTRA focuses on studying challenging problems in the area of smart contracts and blockchain. The main emphasis is on fundamental cryptographic techniques.

Title of the dissertation: On Security of Systems Built on Blockchains

The project concerns various issues related to the model theory and proof theory of first- and second-order arithmetic. The three main research topics are:

• Models of collection principles, in particular expansions of models that satisfy collection but not induction for a given class of formulas.
• The first-order consequences of second-order statements (in particular combinatorial statements) over various base theories in second-order arithmetic.
• The development of a theory of proof sizes and proof speedup for subtheories of arithmetic.

The candidate should have research experience (documented by publications or preprints) in at least one of the following areas of mathematical logic: nonstandard models of arithmetic, proof theory of arithmetic, reverse mathematics.

The project aims to bring together the paradigms of databases on one hand and knowledge representation and reasoning on the other hand, mainly in the area of query processing and reasoning.

Eligible candidates should hold a PhD degree in computer science and have an excellent background in one or more of the following fields:

• database theory
• knowledge representation and reasoning
• logic in computer science.
