Lyon: Vieux Ville — labyrinth of traboules

The old town in Lyon is crammed in between Saone river and Fourvière hill. Out of this reason most of the streets go in the direction along river, and perpendicular streets are quite rare. Therefore, during renaissance rebuilding in many townhouses the courtyards were connected by so called traboules, which allowed people to pass from one street to another. Now they form characteristic dark and somehow mysterious corners of this city.
