Bern: Old Town: W part — an ogre is devouring children

A bear with a rifle in his hand stands between the feet of a hunter with a banner in his hand. Anna Seiler, who funded the local hospital in the fourteenth century, pours water calmly into the vessel. A piper modeled on Durer’s sculpture plays in silence as ever. An ogre devours a child, and has a bag full of children in stock.

Such are the colorful sixteenth-century fountains, of which Bern is famous.
