A scholarship for PhD student in Algebraic Geometry in Warsaw

A scholarship is offered within the Sonata Bis grant Geometric structures behind tensors supported by the NCN (National Science Center, Poland) which is conducted at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw with Joachim Jelisiejew as the Principal Investigator.
Details and conditions:
- The successful candidates will conduct PhD work under the supervision of the PI
Joachim Jelisiejew, related to the project, in particular in the field of tensors.
- The successful candidate will receive a scholarship of 3000 PLN per month for 24 months, October 2025 - September 2027. In addition, the student will be granted some funding for travel to conferences etc. After the period of 24 months, another scholarship competition is expected to open.

Knowledge of algebraic geometry and/or theory of tensors, prior research experience in general and specifically in the area will be a significant bonus.
- At the starting date the applicant must be enrolled to a doctoral school (also knows as PhD) program at a Polish University at a department specialising in mathematics.
Application details
The fellow must respect the National Science Centre (NCN) rules of funding,
including those listed on page 7 of
this document.
In particular,
no salary from NCN is allowed at the same time as his/her scholarship in the project (page 7, subsection 2.1.3, item (b)).

An application should contain:
- a short CV containing basic personal data, including name(s), surname, date of birth, e-mail and information about achievements, awards, distinctions etc. as well as other relevant information,
- information about candidate's studies, such as the date of commencement, department(s), the list of relevant lectures attended by the candidate together with grades received,
- a brief motivation letter with a description of candidate's mathematical interests and reasons for interest in the call and a GDFR consent for processing personal data for the purposes of selecting the fellowship holder,
- all the above documents should be submitted in Polish or in English.
The application will be evaluated by the committee consisting of Jarosław Buczyński, Francesco Galuppi, and Joachim Jelisiejew (chair).
The committee reserves the right to interview selected candidates.
The decisions will be sent before 1 October 2025.
