As an extension of Mori's characterization of the projective space in terms of the positivity of its tangent bundle, it is a natural question to ask whether the only Fano manifolds with nef tangent bundle are rational homogeneous spaces. In this talk we will review some partial results in this direction, obtained in collaboration with Muñoz, Occhetta, Watanabe and Wisniewski.
