Sample Dolphin Applets

In order to demonstrate the Dolphin applet technology for the Web we have put together some pages that illustrate some samples. Each page contains the applet (which will be downloaded automatically) and, for the simpler examples, the Smalltalk source code is included to show you how its done.

Before accessing any of the links below you should download and install the Dolphin web browser plug-in and you should read the important notice below. The current size of the download is circa 900K but we expect this to be substantailly smaller for the final release.

Important Notice

A code-signing mechanism is not in place in this release. As such you will not be able to verify that the sample applets you download will arrive at your site untampered with. Therefore there is potentially a small security risk with these pages. However, we guarantee that the sample applets, as they leave our site, will not access your local hard drive in any way (other than to load the plug-in). They will certainly not write to your local drives or solicit information from them.

• Hello World- The simplest possible applet that just displays "Hello Smalltalk Applet World" within an area of your web browser. Downloads one compiled class file: HelloWorldView.stc.
• Enhanced Hello World - Demonstrates the drawing of graphics. Once again the browser displays "Hello Smalltalk Applet World" but this time in a larger Courier font and surrounded by a coloured oval. This is implemented in a single class: EnhancedHelloWorldView.stc.
• Scribble - This is the identical standalone Scribble application that comes as a sample with Dolphin. This time, however, you don't have to install it from a package; it is deployed as pre-compiled classes from our site directly to your browser.
