The Academic Year:

The academic year is divided into 2 semesters:

Lectures take place as follows:

Nota bene: Although the months of March, April, August and September are officially lecture free, students may have to take exams, attend courses, and prepare papers. Students should ask their departmental co-ordinators for details.

Application and Registration Procedures:

On receiving the student nominations we send information packages, including student application and accommodation reservation forms directly to the students.

Application Deadlines:

for the winter semester:            July 15

for the summer semester:            January 15

Registration:

Students are informed about registration dates in the official letter of acceptance (Zulassungsbescheid), which they receive after returning the completed application form. Registration of new incoming ERASMUS students takes place in October and April respectively.

Accommodation:

The Studentenwerk”is responsible for providing accommodation for ERASMUS students. The housing situation is extremely difficult at the moment. We can only guarantee rooms for 30 % of our ERASMUS students. Rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis. Prices range from 180 - 240 € per month. We cannot assist students looking for housing in the private sector. More information is available in our Students’ Guide. Reservation forms are sent with the information package and should be returned directly to us.

Deadline for Applications:

for the winter semester:            June 15

for the Summer semester:            December 15

Course Information:

The catalogue of courses is available approx. one month before the beginning of each semester. Departments produce a detailed booklet commenting their courses. Both are available in university book shops. A link to the course catalogue (Vorlesungsverzeichnis) can be found on the university homepage. Students should also check the faculty websites for course information.

Post Arrival Orientation Course (Einführungskurs):

The International University Club (IUC) offers a post arrival orientation course in the first two weeks of October. Please consult our Students’ Guide or our website for more information.

German Language Courses:

The International University Club (IUC) organises both pre-term and semester-accompanying language courses in the winter semester only. Please consult our Students’ Guide or the following website for more details: www.iucm.de

We can also provide students with addresses of private language schools (see Students’ Guide).
