Peter Russell:  C* in C^2

Abstract: I will discuss an approach to the classification of closed
embeddings of C* in C^2. I will explain in particular how most of
these can be obtained from quasi-homogeneous affine plane curves using
birational transformations. This is a report on joint work with
P. Cassou-Nogues and M. Koras.
