USOS

USOS is an abbreviation of the computer system designed to manage all information concerning studies at the University of Warsaw. Its web interface https://usosweb.mimuw.edu.pl enables students to register for courses, watch the results of tests and examinations, browse the catalogue of courses, send messages to teachersor fellow students. Each student has an account in USOS and each international student gets one upon arrival. Some information, like the catalogue of courses at the University, is accessible without logging in.

Each student, upon arrival, gets a student’s card and an account in the university computer system. Students, if they choose, can register for the Polish language course or other language courses.

Faculty e-mail

All MIM Faculty students and guest students are provided with e-mail accounts on the student server. Both the Faculty authorities and particular administrative units contact students by e-mail. Students are therefore expected to systematically read e-mails.

The Library

MIM Library (http://www.mimuw.edu.pl/wydzial/biblioteka) holds some sixty thousand books (both Polish and international, including fifteen thousand manuals), and around fifteen thousand Polish and international periodicals. The Library offers open access to most books and journals. The MIM Library is located on the ground floor of the Faculty, in the northern wing. Throughout the summer and winter semesters, it is open Monday to Thursday, 9am to 7pm, and from 9am till 3pm on Fridays. (until 7pm during exam sessions). In other periods, it is typically 9am - 3pm (be sure to consult Library webpage for up-to-date information).

MIM Faculty also offers a free on-line access to all resources of the ACM Digital Library. A student’s card also serves as a library card that enables one to borrow books.

Computer Laboratory

The Computer Lab of the Faculty offers a wide range of software. Some of it may be installed without charge on staff and student’s notebooks. The Computer Lab is open during the academic year Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 8pm, and from 9am till 2:30pm on Saturdays.

There is a free eduroam wireless internet in the building. Please ask at the Computer Lab how to configure your computer to have access to it.

The student organisation

The student self-government of the MIM Faculty is active in organising a student’s life. All events are posted on the website http://samorzad.mimuw.edu.pl.

Members of the student’s government gladly help incoming students in getting around in Warsaw and with day-to-day affairs at the faculty. The student government can be reached by e-mail samorzad@mimuw.edu.pl. This is the most efficient way of communication as people from student’s government work hard to achieve their less than 24h response time goal.
