The organisational structure of the Faculty is quite flexible; there are many associations and migrations between the institutes. There are also several research groups consisting of members from two or more institutes. Each institute publishes a series of research reports.

Research work is conducted by groups, often supported by grants from the State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN) - The Polish governmental grant agency. At the moment of writng this note MIM Faculty held 26 such grants. Several research groups are supported by foreign and international institutions and projects; in particular the European Science Foundation, NATO, 5th EU Framework Programme, National Science Foundation (USA), various bilateral agreements.
