SPRING SCHOOL ON NONCOMMUTATIVE GEOMETRY

Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences

Warsaw, Poland

May 23-28, 2005

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS :

This Banach Center school was partially supported by the Transfer of Knowledge Grant MKTD-CT-2004-509794 and the Reintegration Grant MERG-CT-2004-513604.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME :

The spring school is meant for young mathematicians, who have an interest in noncommutative geometry, K-theory and quantum groups. Several lectures will be given by leading experts in these fields.

The school is a satellite of the Sixth Framework Programme of the EU Marie Curie Action Transfer of Knowledge "Noncommutative Geometry and Quantum Groups" University of Warsaw, October 1, 2004 - September 30, 2008.

Students and postdocs are strongly encouraged to attend the school. The meeting is a combination of spring school and mini-conference. Besides the main lectures some number of 45 min talks given by participants is planned. The selection will be made on the ground of delivered abstracts.

Noncommutative geometry aims to carry over geometrical concepts to the realm of associative algebras, regarded as algebras of functions on some non-classical spaces. In recent years it has become appreciated that such noncommutative spaces retain a rich topology detected by K-theory and cyclic homology. They can admit non-classical symmetries, encoded in actions of quantum groups. Among these spaces one finds celebrated quantum homogeneous spaces. The school will be devoted to bringing together these different aspects of noncommutative geometry, as well as giving to young researchers tools for exploring new emerging directions.
